1st Infantry - Gospel Hip Hop/Rap
Portland Oregon
Both are Portlant, OR natives who grew up in fatherless, low income homes in Noeth and Northeast Portland, and can testify to being slaves to the world and its lusts. Both have war stories of personal exposure to hard times, life without Christ, and a sinful past. Once Prisoners of war, they have been set free and drafted into the army of good.
Meeting through mutual friends as solo artists, they quickly recognized musical chemistry and began to collaboration on songwriting. Through prater. they realized that the alliance they share was no coincidence but rather a manifestation of God's will.
One evening as they talked about God's purpose for their lives, they agree that God was calling them to a music ministry together. They would reach back into the same trenches God delivered them from and lead the lost to salvation.
That is when Marcell Goss (Shyne Star), and Duoshun Pledgure (God's Child) became 1st Infantry
Two soldiers stand alert and ready, deployed behind enemy lines into the culture of Hip Hop to fight the good fight. Their mission statement explains, " Gold there is, rubies in abundance, but lips that speak knowledge are rare jewels" ( Proverbs 20:15). They have been called to use the Gospel of Jesus Christ to reach a culture where Christ is not glorified.
These men take this call seriously. They are not performers or entertainers but rather ministers, missionaries in this culture we call Hip Hop. They realize his lifestyle goes past the music and microphone and is an everyday battle to pick up their own cross and die daily. They understand that living what they speak and write is crucial.
1st Infantry recognizes that there is no more to this ministry than a beat and a rhyme so they live to serve Christ and acknowledge him. God took two lives, intertwined them, and molded a ministry with a mission to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the World through Hip Hop.
Shyne Star
Shyne Star, the cool and collected lyricist with an ear to the street and heart inclined to God, wears his heart on his sleeve, sharing how he has seen God work in his life. Through the tough breaks that life gives, Shyne has had to "wrestle" with God so that his testimoney is pure, similar to the Biblical figure Jacob. You hear that genuine heart in his music. Many can relate to his lyrical testimony that will continue to be written.
God's Child
God's Child, equally as composed as his counterpart, is the clever philosopher and beat-maker who diligently searches the sciptures to communicate the truth of God. In his music you get an audible picture of how he embraces God's word. He has a knack a knack for communicating the sciptures through the realities of the world around us. His music is a life application of the Bible -- sermons for the hood indeed!
"Ist Infantry is one of the best Christian Rap groups I have ever ministered with. I have had the chance to work with several local artists and these guys bless me each time. They don't fit any racial or cultural stereotype except that which is of Christ's saving power. Let me put it to you like this: These guys are humble, powerful, they are servants, and aren't too good to get dirty. I will always include 1st Infantry in the outreach events we do because they are commited to the Gospel and could care less about money or fame. Their skills are off the chain fo sho, I love watching them perform and minister. Keep it up yo!!!
